water

I have just begun to increase my water intake as I have heard this is a simple way in which you can lose weight, however I haven?t seen any results yet (it's been about a month since I started). First is this true (and no I am not looking for some magical way to loose 100 pounds) and second how much water should I be drinking? Would the amount be related to what I currently weigh or the amount I wish to loose? Also should I be sure to drink a certain amount right before my meals?

Water and weight loss
by: Dr. Dan

Tati,

The way I would look at water and weight loss is this: drinking water is not a magical way to lose weight, but...

If you don't get enough water you will have a very hard time ever losing weight.

And in scientific studies, the people that drank more water did lose more weight, and it didn't have anything to do with what they ate or how much exercise they got. Just the water.

So it is important to get enough water.

And it has to be water. Not Coke. Not Sprite.

And not "diet" anything. If you cut out sugary drinks and have "diet" drinks instead you just eat more calories to make up the difference.

But what if you drink water instead? Then you don't eat more calories. You'll eat about 200 calories per day less. That's 20 pounds in a year.

A glass of water before each meal is a good place to start. And a glass of water whenever you feel hungry is a good idea, because a lot of the time when you feel hungry you are actually thirsty but don't really sense it properly in your body.

The daily amount of water for weight loss? You should get about 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight (30 ml per kilogram) per day.

Drinking water

Drinking water is not just great for losing weight; it's great for your skin and your body's health in general.

If you're trying to lose weight, keep drinking the water, at least 64 oz. per day. This will flush toxins out of your body. It will also help you feel more full and keep you hydrated.

Drinking water is only one tactic for losing weight, though. You have to eat less and exercise more, and do this consistently.

Try with small steps, such as drinking one extra glass of water per day and gradually increasing your exercise regimen over time.

My biggest weight loss/increased health success was attained by increasing exercise (I started walking every day, working up to several miles per day over time), eating a little less, and drinking more water. It works - you must be persistent and patient, though.

I don't believe in specific diets. However, I do agree with the following: increase your fiber intake, eat more fruit & veggies, less fried foods, less sugar. If you want dessert, eat a small portion.

The only product I've felt safe using is vitamins. They're good for you & increase your energy level. Good luck!

Water, water, everywhere?

The practice of drinking water to reduce weight has significant merit. The body needs water to remove toxins. Proper hydration at high levels is necessary during exercise. Finally, a person?s mind has a hard time distinguishing between thirst and hunger.

First, toxins build up in a body for many reasons. We eat them and drink them regularly. Many of the prepacked foods have preservatives and other artificials that slowly build up. Toxins also build up during exercise. Drinking water provides a means of removing the toxins.

Second, proper hydration is needed during exercise. Our bodies are always perspiring. Higher levels of activity remove water from our system faster. Although sports drinks sound good in commercials, most tap water has electrolytes and will be the rehydration tool our bodies really want.

Finally, our minds do not have a good distinction between thirst and hunger. People may think they are hungry when in fact all they need is rehydration.

You have to drink 3-4 liters of water daily. As water helps to remove the waste product of our body. Besides taking water you have to regular exercises in morning after taking water. This may help you reduce your weight.

WATER

THIS IS A GOOD QUESTION.

WATER DOES HELP LOSE POUNDS VERY WELL. YOU NEED TO DRINK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN BUT ALSO CONSIDER THE FACT THAT YOU NEED TO WATCH WHAT YOU EAT AND TRY TO WORK OUT A LITTLE ALSO. IF NOT EVERYDAY THEN AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY. WATER DOES HELP WHEN YOU ARE DOING OTHER POSITIVE THINGS TO SUPPORT IT BUT WATER ISN'T A WEIGHT LOSS PRODUCT SO IT ISN'T GONNA REMOVE THE WEIGHT FOR YOU. YOU HAVE TO DO YOU PART ALSO BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION YES WATER DOES HELP LOSE WEIGHT BUT YOU AREN'T REQUIRED TO DRINK A CERTAIN AMOUNT EACH DAY. JUST COMMIT TO A ROUTINE WORKOUT DON'T DRINK SODA AND LIMIT JUICE. SUBSTITUTE JUICE AND SODA FOR WATER ALL THE TIME IF YOU CAN DO A LITTLE WORK OUTS.

HOPEFULLY THIS HELPS!

How water helps
by: cvc1968

Yes, all diets tell you to drink lots of water. But drinking lots of water does not in itself cause weight loss. The purpose of the water is two-fold. First, it flushes your system and keeps it well lubricated. Water washes toxins out of your kidneys and your digestive system and helps keep everything flowing. You want stuff your body doesn?t need to exit, and lots of water helps make that happen.
Secondly, water keeps you hydrated. The worst thing a dieter can do for their morale is abandon water and liquids, which will show an almost instant and significant weight loss IN THE SHORT TERM. But that dieter will feel equally disheartened when that weight either rebounds or remains stagnant over time. Keep yourself hydrated to avoid that false weight loss from ?water weight?. You want to lose fat, not liquid.

Water Helps Weight Loss
by: BBath

Yes, water does help when you are trying to lose weight. As a matter of fact, water aids in everyday life as well. You should be drinking at least 64 ounces of water per day. When I attended a weight loss clinic, I was told a little trick for drinking water. Drink 32 ounces at one time within a thirty minute time span. Then drink the last 32 ounces the same way. This causes a greater amount of water to flush out the toxins at one time. Also, it regulates your body so that you do not spend all day in the ladies' room. Don't give up on the use of water. Just make sure that you are drinking the right amount.
