Is Successful Weight Loss Even Possible?

"What makes the difference between success and failure? A commitment..."

Make a commitment...

Slim woman in oversized jeans
  • Find your goal. Here's how.
  • Make it real.
  • Make it workable.
  • Write it in words of fire.
It's not a vague, "I need to lose weight" or, "I need to go on a diet."

It's solid. Achievable. Real.

The one-two punch:

  1. Here's what I'm going to achieve.
  2. Here's how I'm going to do it.

“The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence...”

Vince Lombardi

Make your goals crystal clear

You say, "I would like to lose 50 pounds (or 20 kg) by August 1st of next year."

Another goal could be, "I would like to be down two dress sizes 6 weeks from today."

See, these are exact goals. They include two things:

  • what you want to accomplish and
  • when you would like to do that.

Go ahead, write down your goals NOW. Include the what and the when.

Seeds of doubt

Now, look at the two lines above. Fairly clear. Not too bad. But...

They contain seeds of doubt and failure.

What you want to accomplish. That's just: "I want to. I don't know if I can but I want to."

See? Weak, weak, weak. It opens the door to failure.

Same thing here: When you would like to do that? Wishy-washy.

"It would be nice if I could do it by then. Maybe I could."

  • Maybe you could.
  • Maybe not.
  • Maybe will get you exactly nowhere!

If there is any maybe in your plans you will absolutely fail. This has led to your downfall before. Don't let it happen this time.

Cut through all doubt like a saber through an over-ripe squash...

How? Make a commitment to successful weight loss. Unleash your inner invincibility...

  • What you will do.
  • When you will do that.

Now you have a real goal. Something to shoot for. And a decision to back it up.

Note: You are much more powerful than you ever realized. That's something to think about.

“Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans.”

Peter F. Drucker

Your commitment should look like this:

  • I am going to lose 30 pounds by my birthday.
  • I am going to fit in a size 10 dress by my wedding anniversary.
  • I am going to have a 36 inch waist on the first day of spring.

Eliminate the wiggle room. Put it in stone: "This I will do."

Keep it in sight

Now, put your goal where you will see it.

  • Bathroom mirror
  • Refrigerator
  • Your desk
  • Purse or wallet

Keep a copy by your scale. Weigh yourself every morning. Because each time you weigh yourself you remind yourself of your goal.

So keep your goal in front of you. Stay focused on successful weight loss.

That way you won't stray. You have your eye on the prize. And you can soon have the body you want.

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”
