Time vs. difficulty on treadmill workout

by Maria

I've been told that in order for me to lose weight, I need to work out approx. 200 minutes a week.

I have a treadmill and wonder if it's better to work out 200 minutes walking a brisk pace (3.5mph) or do less time, perhaps 150 minutes or so, walking slower but steep incline?

I'm about 25 pounds overweight. I'm a 46 year old female.

How to exercise on a treadmill for the best results
by: Dr. Dan

Maria,

Exercise will help you lose weight but only if it's effective exercise.

Too many people go to the gym and plod along week after week and don't get anywhere.

The key is intensity. If you have an increased incline that will increase the intensity. So that's good.

If you speed up the treadmill you will increase the intensity. So that's good too.

But if you keep it the same every week you will plateau and you won't lose weight. That's not good.

So keep track of the time and the settings. And make it a game to increase something each week, at least a little, to boost the intensity.

Do that and you'll see results.
