Protein diet

by Jamie

I have a question about a high protein diet. I have been trying the high protein diet for two weeks now and I intend to lose at least 50 pounds.

I have lost 10 pounds but I am craving carbs so much! I have been trying to eat at least 40 grams of protein a day along with some vegetables.

I have been limiting myself to 15 grams of carbohydrates a day as suggested by the diet I am on. I have been told that the carbohydrate craving will eventually stop and I will be losing more weight soon.

Will the weight return once I go off of the diet?

high protein low carb diet

Jamie,

Something about your diet doesn't add up.

If you are eating 40 grams of protein per day that is 160 calories from protein.

Add in your 15 grams of carbohydrate and you have another 60 calories.

That's only 220 calories.

How many calories do you need? It depends on your age, sex, size and activity level, but it is more like 2000 calories per day.

Follow these links for calculators that show you
daily calories for weight loss and how much protein, fat and carbohydrate that you need.

Good luck,

Dr. Dan
