Half Marathon on No Training

About two years ago, when I was 23, I completed a half marathon. It was really tough work as I had done virtually no training and wasn't very fit.

Thirteen miles is a long way. It was a really hot September day and we were running the whole way on paved roads -- exhausting.

I had two friends with me so we kept each other motivated the whole way round. I don't think I could have done it without them.

It took me 1 hr 45 minutes in total which was amazing considering it was the first time I had run 13 miles in one go. It made me feel so much mentally stronger.

After the run I felt amazing. There was a real adrenaline rush, although my legs felt like jelly and continued to be sore for quite a few days afterwards.

I think that doing the half marathon made me realize how fun exercise could be. Since then I have been running regularly and hope to do some more half marathons and maybe even a full marathon one day.

I would really advise other people to give a half marathon a go. Even if you don't think you will have time to do much training beforehand, have a go and you might surprise yourself how good you are, just like I did.

What I would really recommend is getting some decent running shoes though as they can support your feet and make it easier for you to finish! Good luck to everyone who goes for it!
