Alcohol And Weight Loss

A bad combination

There are 7 calories per gram in alcohol. There are only 4 calories per gram in carbohydrate and protein.

Alcohol bottles, alcohol and weight loss don't mix Fat has 9 calories per gram. So alcohol can pack on the pounds almost as well as fat can.

A drink a day

Even one beer a day or one mixed drink can put you over the edge. After all, one hundred extra calories per day is 10 pounds per year.

Yes, I know it's sad but true -- 100 calories per day is 36,500 calories per year -- and that's over 10 pounds of fat.

Alcohol and your metabolism

And when you drink alcohol everything else stops. You can store some carbohydrate, you can store a lot of fat, but you can't store alcohol.

So when you drink alcohol everything else shuts down while your liver metabolizes the alcohol.

And what does it do with it? Most likely it turns it to fat.

If you are trying to take off the pounds you have to weed out these things that add calories but don't provide nutrition.

An occasional drink on Saturday night might be okay. But more than that? It will make it very hard for you to lose weight and keep it off.

"One reason I don't drink is that I want to know when I am having a good time."

Nancy, Lady Astor
